Uses : Shanchol Oral Vaccine helps prevent cholera. It can be given to anyone above the age of 1 year orally. Two doses are given at an interval of at least two weeks. The protective effect begins within 7-10 days of completion of the vaccination schedule. Cholera vaccine is usually given orally (by mouth) as a single dose. You will receive this suspension in a clinic or other healthcare setting. This vaccine should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 1 hour after eating.

Side Effects : The most common side effects include fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, itching, rashes, nausea, weakness, cough, vertigo, and dryness in the mouth. They do not normally last very long. Sitting or lying down can sometimes help. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects persist or worry you.

Shanchol isindicated for active immunization against Vibrio cholerae. The vaccine can be administered to anyone above the age of 1 year. Data for the safety and efficacy of the vaccine in infants (less than 1 year of age) is not available. Before having the Shanchol Oral Vaccine, you should tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to a vaccine. Some other medicines may react with the cholera vaccine so talk to your doctor about other medications you are taking as well. You should consult your doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
